So Sonos has come out with 125 watt AMP

Ships December 14th 2018

  • Enjoy high-fidelity performance with 125 Watts per channel
  • Power your bookshelf, floor-standing, in-wall, and in-ceiling speakers
  • Stream everything you love with the Sonos app and AirPlay
  • Connect your TV to create the ultimate entertainment system
  • Amp is built to last and improve over time

What will 125 watts per channel give you?

Read on and get the scoop straight from a tech about how this new baby performs:

“My first hours with Amp.  I immediately connected Amp to a pair of Legacy Audio Focus SE speakers to see how Amp performs in 2 channel mode.  The sound was very detailed and full. Bass impact was impressive. Imaging was also very impressive. I found myself searching for more songs to play as I couldn’t believe how well Amp was powering these monster tower speakers!

I then proceeded to do an A/B comparison of Connect:Amp and Amp. Same speakers, volume, and demo tracks. There is no comparison.

While the Connect:Amp sounded pretty good, it only lasted a few minutes before shutting down in protection mode.

“Over-driving your amp can cause internal damage and even when digital Living installs more than 1 pair of speakers to a Connect Amp, we use a speaker selector with impedance matching to ensure the amp doesn’t go into protection mode.” Founder Derich marsh Digital Living.

I immediately noticed that the detail, impact, and clarity of the music was now missing.  Another interesting find was the amount of heat, or lack thereof, that Amp produced. After about 4 hours of music at about 80% volume, the Amp was warm at best. Very efficient power supply!”

“When designing a Sonos system you want to make sure your aren’t shorting yourself with power. Digital Living approaches Sonos systems with design in mind, every time. We have customers that want to rock out in a room and if that is the case and they want clean, crisp sounds, we use a amp designed for producing a good amount of power with a Sonos Connect (non-amp). Then you still get the world class Sonos experience with a sound your cant best.” Founder of digital living, Derich Marsh

As we left the driveway of our Digital Living Smart Home scene last week, we were a single person enjoying a quiet morning alone.

Today, we will imagine how your Digital Living Certified Smart Home can help your kids mornings go a little smoother.

So we already know that as a parent we will have a great start as we sing along to our fave song in the shower while our coffee brews. As our rooms are slowly brightening and waking us up in the way we would like, we can also customize a wake-up scene for each child.

Betty, “15, and so over waking up for school” might be more inclined to hop out of bed if she had a special scene created just for her. She can wake up to her favorite song playing on the in-wall speakers near the head of her bed. Her lights can be programmed to brighten slowly, or if she would prefer them to turn on instantly to give her that wake-up jolt she feels she might prefer, we can do that. She can set a second alarm and her music can follow her into her powder room making mornings “bearable at least”.  Oh, and those inwall speakers… they can also be used as an intercom for Mom. “Betty… it’s time to come down now. Breakfast is ready.”

Tim, who is 8, loves to wake up to his morning light show coupled with his favorite theme song from his favorite superhero movie. As the colored lights dance to the tune he can’t help but be compelled to jump out of bed. Mom can also let him know she has his breakfast waiting downstairs using his inwall speakers.

We’d love to hear from you. What ideas will your kids have for morning wake up scenes to help them transition?

Let us install your Digital Living Certified Smart Home and get your day started right.

Good Morning Everyone,

I hope you enjoyed last weeks post about what might be possible with your Digital Living Certified Smart Home automation system.

Join me for week 2 as I create new scenes you could potentially recreate for your Digital Living Certified Smart Home.

Our focus last week was on a morning wake-up scene. Today, I would like to visit what it might be like to enter into a possible breakfast scene.

We last left off with fresh coffee awaiting you. Imagine if you will, making your way down the hall toward the kitchen, the lights sensing your presence as you approach, as the ones behind are diming off in the background. Stopping to pour your coffee, you glance to the left. A small kitchen television descends from under the cabinet to display today’s news. The drapes quietly glide open to reveal the colours of autumn. You prepare your breakfast as you watch one of your favorite cooking shows.

Breathing in, enjoying the warm light, you are alerted that it is time to go. Your garage door opens as you head to the car. As you back out, pausing for a moment in the driveway, you tap an icon on your phone and your home shuts down as you leave, locking all the doors, turning off all the lights, and shutting all the window coverings, except the ones where your favorite orchid resides, letting in that perfect amount of filtered light.

Follow along with Digital Living Certified Home as we create your perfect day from beginning to end.

Choosing to invest in new or upgraded low voltage cabling can result in costly retrofits later if the system you have installed was not designed to fit your needs or designed to integrate future technology. When you choose to have an electrician install your cable system, you risk losing performance in the future of your system.

Think of your smart home as a large computer operating the daily functions of your home. Would you ask an electrician to troubleshoot your computer? Probably not, they aren’t versed in such technology. This is why its imperative to hire a Licensed Low Voltage Contractor to design and install this type of valuable system.

Choosing to install whole house cabling is a great investment when done right. It will increase the value of your home and helps you complete everyday tasks seamlessly.

1. Low Voltage Contractors Are On Top Of Technology

Certified installers are trained in all the latest industry standards, technology shifts, and what the potentials are for the future. They are the first to be trained on new hardware, wiring, and gear. They spend many hours on special training sessions with the developers of new products and technology.

Using a trained technician offers you peace of mind and saves time and money in the long run.

2. Contractors Offer Valuable Product Warranties

Working with a low voltage contractor who has designed your system from the ground up, means that you know what’s being installed is tailored to your specific needs and the upgrades you would like to see in the future can be easily added in when you are ready.  When you choose Digital Living to design your system, you get the satisfaction of knowing that your system was installed correctly and if anything we designed fails, we will be able to correct the issues at no cost to you.

3. Less human error

Mistakes and errors are reduced when you let a hands-on trained professional install and connect your cabling infrastructure. Knowing your system was installed correctly gives you piece of mind when it comes to performance. You can expect fewer network and new component issues down the line. Yes, even something as simple as paring a new component can be problematic if the original install did not have the proper connective end installed in the location you need.

4. Faster Installation No Matter What

Many challenges arise during installs. Professionals run into these challenges as well, however, they have more knowledge on how to work around certain difficulties and can even fabricate solutions for your specific issues. This makes a professional install much faster, safer, and precise.

Remember, a stitch in time saves 9. There is truth to this old adage. Have a licensed low voltage contractor design and install your system today so that tomorrow, you won’t be paying for costly retrofits.

It’s no big secret that technology is creating modern-day advantages in the work environment, but what about in the home? The question most people ask is, how? How will technology help me in everyday home life? What advantages will I gain by integrating my home?

I have to admit I have been living in the dark ages. (Insert eye roll emoji here.) I am a child of the 80’s. If we wanted to hang out with friends, we had to find them first. I remember riding my bike from my home to my friends home only to discover she wasn’t there. So on to the park downtown… again, not there. Where to now? Where could she be? If only there was a way to find her without having to ride my bike all over the town. Enter the cell phone.

I am reminded of a great movie, “Desk Set” with Katharine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy. It’s a 1957 flick where Katharine’s character, an extremely knowledgeable research clerk for a television network, is in danger of losing her job to a computer.  People call her and the other women in the department and ask random questions much like we ask Siri today. What are the names of Santa’s reindeer? How many inches in a mile?  The computer in this movie takes up almost the whole entire department she works in. Today we hold in our hands, smartphones that contain more power than any one of the late 50’s would have thought possible.

So what’s my point by all this? Like some of you out there, I was not aware of all the possibilities that living in a smart home could offer. I was living the life of Katherine Hepburn in Desk Set, thinking technology was my enemy. It is here to help.

Remember how I mentioned seamlessly enjoying life? Every day we go through many transitions. Let Digital Living help you integrate your home to perform for you making some of these transitions feel less stressful and more, seamless.

Here are some suggested ways your Digital Living Certified Smart Home can help give you back the gift of time helping you seamlessly live life.

Start your morning off right.

Imagine warm soft lighting set to turn on with your morning alarm that gradually brightens as you wake up. Helping to smoothly transition you from sleep to wakefulness in a peaceful way. The floor starts to warm under your feet as the in-floor heating kicks in on those cool winter mornings. As you make your way to the shower your favorite song is cued when you open the door, encouraging you to have a great day. Don’t worry, we didn’t forget the coffee, your coffee maker was set to go off with your alarm and has fresh brew waiting for you.

Join me each week as I post new ways your Digital Living Certified Smart Home will help make your life seamless.

Don’t Be Fooled About Your Internet Providers WiFi or the Latest DIY Whole House Wireless Gadgets

Ever get frustrated by losing connection while roaming the house…or when you venture outside? That’s why you need a mesh network, but not one of those plug-in-play setups. Not all Mesh networks provide the same coverage and speeds….

Everything needs a connection in your home…literally. And with all those devices needing a pathway to the internet you will need robust wireless access to accommodate throughput. That is why its imperative to have a WiFi pro assess your needs and provide the appropriate equipment. An added benefit is also a always having your network up and monitored.

Having a professional integration company like Digital Living build a robust wireless network is the most sound investment you can make towards the technology in your home, It will also relieve a tremendous amount of stress with loss of internet connectivity.

If you’re using one of these that CNET recommends in the linked article and you are experiencing slow, or poor coverage, then you are now at the point to invest in a robust mesh network installed by Digital Living. Derich Marsh, Founder of Digital Living.

The ideal smart home has changed a lot over the last few years, from a few smart bulbs and a thermostat to video doorbells and robotic lawnmowers. With an ever-growing number of connected devices in your home, there is an obvious bottleneck that can occur: Wi-Fi reliability. The more devices you pile onto your network and the more widespread throughout your home they are, the more you’ll notice holes in your Wi-Fi coverage. This is the one thing every smart home needs

Thanks to Democrats, Wednesday the Senate voted to restore the Net neutrality policies that were previously repealed by the FCC. Only three Republicans, Susan Collins (R-Maine), John Kennedy (R-LA) and Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) broke rank in the Senate’s 52-47 vote.

Senate Democrats had pushed for a vote to enact the Congressional Review Act, or CRA, to halt the Federal Communications Commission’s rollback of Obama-era rules governing the open internet. Well, they got the vote Wednesday, and it went their way.

New FCC Hurdles
The FCC now has some new roadblocks to abolish the rules.
